About this role

The successful candidates will be responsible for keeping staff upskilled, be proactive in promoting safeguarding and learner support across the organisation and be responsive to learner needs. This role will report to the Skills & Quality Director. As part of this role you may come into contact with young people and vulnerable adults. Due to this all roles will undergo the following checks: • Enhanced DBS Check with enrolment to the update service and an additional check on the children’s barred list • Digital screening comprising of an online search • References (one of which must be your current/last employer) Any offers of employment are made on a conditional basis on the satisfactory completion of the above checks. Role responsibilities
  • Create, implement and monitor against a Safeguarding Strategy that ensures the safety of the learners and staff in our care
  • Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead for DBC Training
  • Provide timely informative safeguarding reports to the Board
  • Own and update Safeguarding & Prevent risk assessments and action plans for the organisation
  • Manage, resolve and track cases, including complex cases
  • Manage and create a Safeguarding training schedule, ensuring that all learning is effective and meets the needs of the business
  • Ensure that everyone has had and can evidence up to date Safeguarding & Prevent training
  • Liaising with any external agency and attend appropriate meetings, and advise internal staff
  • Develop flexible and tailored solutions to Safeguarding ensuring this reflects and supports the variety of contract requirements across our business and partners
  • Support line managers across DBC to ensure they have a full understanding of the Safeguarding and Prevent Agenda including attending management meetings to deliver training and provide updates
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of all relevant statutory guidance and policy changes, ensuring updates are regular communicated across the organisation
  • Develop effective links and relationships internally and externally to ensure the delivery of effective Safeguarding and Prevent Agenda for learners
  • Create and run a Safeguarding committee that works to continuously improve Safeguarding across DBC Training and track and report on cases, trends etc
  • Work in partnership with the Senior Management Team to ensure that we create a safe and welcoming learning environment for all learners
  • Responsibility for the regular monitoring and update of the Single Central Register and effective relationships with local LADO’s
  • Ensure the Safeguarding Policy is in line with current legislative requirements and is effectively implemented across the group by adopting measures to ensure full understanding across both learners and employee groups
  • Take the lead on the external Leaders in Safeguarding Audit to maintain DBC Trainings accreditation
  • Provide ongoing support of programmes with delivery of current/new curriculum (with Safeguarding i.e. Prevent Duty, Online Safety) in line with external requirements (Ofsted)
  • To support with the observation process for both Information, Advice and Guidance and Teaching and Learning practice (Safeguarding focus)
  • Identify and implement Safeguarding best practice, establishing a network of key contacts & experts
  • To source and advise on extended support for learners with specific and extended support needs, including development of staff understanding
  • To maintain and develop a central partnership and referral agency menu and resources
  • Create and distribute regular Safeguarding communication across the Group (i.e. notice boards, internal intranet, internal newsletters etc.)
  • Attend any training relating to the continuous development of Safeguarding/Prevent
  • Take the lead on Health and Safety for the organisation ensuring appropriate health and safety assessments are completed in the relevant training centres.
Skills and experience
  • Good standard of English, maths and IT
  • Qualified Designated Safeguarding Lead trained & experience
  • Mental Health Training is desirable
  • Be prepared to undertake Mental Health First Aid Training
  • Health and Safety qualification is desirable
  • Experience of working on Apprenticeship and Employability related contracts is essential
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to adapt
  • Strong interpersonal skills, specifically around listening, questioning, building relationships and motivation.
  • Organisation skills, problem solving and the ability to work under own initiative
  • Safeguarding Experience with minors or vulnerable people
  • Ability and proven track record of driving and leading strategy while in an operational capacity.
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding & Prevent
  • In depth understanding of OFSTED requirements in relation to Safeguarding, Prevent and Health and Safety
  • Experience of carrying out observations with the ability to identify areas for development through observation skills and data analysis
  • Experience of developing, implementing and managing processes
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage with both internal and external stakeholders at all levels
